How to Prepare Your Home for Spring and Hail Season

We all know the saying “April showers bring May flowers,” but sometimes it can also bring unexpected hailstorms, and in Texas, even unexpected heat waves!

It’s important to make sure that your home roof and exterior are as prepared as possible for inclement weather so we’ve put together a simple list of steps you can take to assure that your home will be the last one standing.

Get an Inspection Early in the Season

You may not be aware of damages that have already taken place on your existing roof so it’s important to assess that early on before they further damage occurs. Repair or replace missing, cracked, or worn shingles. And if a replacement is in order it’s better to replace it now before the situation worsens. You can book an inspection here on our homepage.

Know your Insurance policy

Does your insurance cover roof damage? Now is a god time to find out as much detail as possible. Most insurance carriers and policies will cover the cost of repairs for hail damage, if yours does not consider switching providers as soon as possible. It’s also possible that could have a higher deductible for hail or wind damage than other weather related claims so be sure to research that as well.

Trim Back Trees

The trees surrounding your home can be beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. It’s important to properly landscape and monitor your tree growth. Cutting or trimming branches near your roof to can significantly reduce the risk of damage to your home’s exterior.

Check weather regularly

This may be a no-brainer but knowing your local weather daily can help to prepare you and your family for a hailstorm in advance!

Safety Tip: During a hailstorm – Remain Indoors!

  • Stay away from glass doors, skylights, and patios to avoid broken glass
  • Close blinds and drapes to prevent debris from coming inside
  • Park your car in a covered area if possible
